Choose the right thread for your effect.

For me, invisible thread is more than something the audience cannot see. Its softness, stretch and elastic response are part of the design of an effect. Change the thread, and the same movement can feel and behave differently.

After months of hands-on use and developing new effects with this thread, I chose to offer two specifications: 10D and 15D. Each gives you a different feel, so you can choose what works for the effect you want to create.

Black from production. Excellent matte performance.

This thread is produced black, rather than dyed black afterward. That avoids the post-dyeing process and the concerns about staining hands and thread life that I associate with post-dyed thread.

Its matte appearance is one of the qualities I appreciate most. In my own use, I have not encountered the entire strand catching the light and appearing white instead of black. It is a key reason I use this thread in my own work.

10D or 15D: what is the difference?

D stands for denier, a measure of a thread's linear density: its weight in grams per 9,000 metres. It is not a load rating or a stretch multiplier.

In practice, the feel matters more than the number. To my eyes, 10D and 15D look almost identical, both before and after stretching. The difference is in how they respond to your movements.

10D: softer feel, gentler return

10D feels softer, with a gentler elastic return. Starting with the same length, I can stretch it a little farther than 15D. It is a good choice when your effect calls for a lighter return or more room to extend.

15D: more pronounced elastic feedback

15D gives a more noticeable elastic response. In my experience, it is better suited to objects heavier than a banknote, such as rings and pens, for levitation, balancing and movement effects.

When you create an effect or make a product for another magician, that choice is part of the design.
